چکیده
The present project is aimed at studying the exogenous regulation of leaf senescence in two millets i.e. Setaria italica, L. and Pennisefum typhoides Burm. The present study is confined to the study of excised leaf senescence by using growth regulators as the exogenous agents. Attached leaf study was avoided for the reason that preliminary experiments showed insensitiveness of the leaves of these two millets to growth regulators in the attached condition. In this study three growth regulators were selected, each from three major groups. Benzimidazole (BZI) represented cytokinins and indole acetic acid represented the auxins and GA3 represented the Gibberellins. In the present investigation, the growth regulators had no effect on the catalase activity of S. italica and the effects were inconsistent in P. typhoids. Thus it appears that trends in catalase activity is species specific and cannot be generalized. The activity of peroxidase increased during senescence. There was some stimulation of peroxidase in S. italica. However in P. typhoides the enzyme was insensitive to exogenous agents. Thus peroxidase cannot show the extent of physiological decline in these plants. Polyphenol oxidase activity in S. italica exhibited a continuous increase up to the end of incubation both in dark and light treatments in contrast to P. typhoides where a 48 h fall was noticed.

Abstract Thioredoxins are invoved in redox regulation of many cellular processes. In this study the role of NADP+-Thioredoxin reductase C (NTRC) in the control of leaf senescence was investigated by biochemical characterization of Arabidopsis ntrc mutants. Forty days old wild type and two ntrc mutant lines were incubated either under normal dark-light or continous darkness regimes for 6 days as...

In order to investigate physiological and biochemical changes of wheat under stress residue of Imazethapyr herbicide (Imazethapyr), an experiment was conducted in a completely randomized design with four replications in greenhouse conditions at university of Mohaghegh Ardebili. The treatments consisted of five dose levels of herbicide Imazethapyr (0, 0.011, 0.022, 0.033 and 0.044 micrograms of ...

Millets are major food and feed sources in the developing world especially in the semiarid tropical regions of Africa and Asia. The most widely cultivated millets are pearl mil‐ let [Pennisetum glaucum (L.) R. Br.], finger millet [Eleusine coracana (L.) Gaertn], foxtail millet [Setaria italica (L.) P. Beauvois], Japanese barnyard millet [Echinochloa esculneta (A. Braun) H. Scholz], Indian Barny...

The effects of irrigation, dry farming and drought treatments on the activities of antioxidant enzymes including superoxide dismutase, ascorbate peroxidase, catalase and peroxidase in barley leaves at different generative growth stages under field conditions were investigated. Three senescence parameters including chlorophyll, total soluble protein and rubisco large subunit protein loss, were a...
